Native to North America including Georgia, this tree is known to engage in hydraulic lift, drawing water from lower soil layers and exuding that water into upper, drier soil layers, bene?ting the tree and other plants. The sap is a primary source for maple syrup. The wood is prized for its use in furniture and flooring.
