Overcup Oak

Indigenous to the southeastern United States including Georgia, the common name comes from the acorns being largely enclosed in the cup and the scientific name comes from the lyrate (lyre-shaped) leaves.  Similar to other white oaks, the wood is valuable and used for making objects such as barrels, weaponry, and ships.
