Eastern Red Cedar

In the Missouri and Arkansas, this tree is commonly used as a Christmas tree.  The aromatic wood is avoided by moths, so it is used in dressers and closets.  Native Americans used poles to mark out agreed tribal hunting territories, and French traders named Baton Rouge, LA, (meaning “red stick”) from the reddish color of the poles.
