Slippery Elm

Slippery Elm (#18)

Native to North America, this tree is less susceptible to Dutch Elm Disease, a fungi spread by the elm bark beetle.  It serves commercial medicinal use as a demulcent, reducing inflammation in mucus membranes.  The wood is strong and used to make bows and wheel hubs.  The inner bark is used to make bow strings, twine, or rope.
