Cabbage Palm

Cabbage Palm (#07)

Indigenous to the lower southeastern United States including Georgia, this tree is salt and drought tolerant.  It is cultivated as a food source and is the origin of “hearts of palm,” a vegetable harvested from the inner core and growing bud of the tree.  The trunks are used to make wharf piles.
